Bo Min Gaung and U Eindaka

About U Eindaka

U Eindaka  is the abbot at the Aung Setkya Kyaung in Saginag. He was born of Chinese-Burmese  parents and was educated in an English missionary school. During the Second World War he studied in Japan at the Rikkyo University in Tokyo.  After the war, he obtained his master’s degree from M.I.T.   Upon return to Burma, he became an architect, made money and was socially popular.  He renounced the world at the age of 43.

 Encounter with Bo Min Gaung

Bo Min Gaung is a weizzar who is worshipped in many Burmese homes. He became a weizzar by following the path of the weizzar.  To become a weizzar, he had to follow a strict path of self discipline including meditation practices to strengthen the will power and develop his spiritual powers. When he became a weizzar, he acquired  supernatural powers. He in fact became a human being who had the power of a deva (celestial being). U Eindaka met Aba Bo Min Gaung at the age of 15.  One day the 15 year old U Eindaka was carrying a brand new air rifle he had just bought.  Seeing this young man , Bo Min Gaung invited him to join a group of people surrounding a camp fire and asked for the air rifle.  The young man gave the air rifle to Bo Min Gaung. Once the air rifle was in his hands, Bo Min Gaung broke it into two and threw it into the fire.  U Eindaka broke into tears at the loss of his air rifle and Bo Min Gaung taught him to respect the life of all living creatures.  Bo Min Gaung then granted the young man three wishes.  The young man wanted to excel in school, to be rich and to be popular among girls in his life.  Aba Bo Min Gaung the weizzar promised that all his wishes would be fulfilled if he became a monk at the age of 45. Thus the deal was made. As the young man was about to leave, Aba Bo Min Gaung picked up a burning piece of wood from the camp fire and threw it to the young man. The young man was quite surprised and frightened.  He was more surprised when the burning piece of wood landed in his hands. When he looked at it, the piece of wood had been transformed into his air rifle. It was still brand new.

It is time

One day when U Eindaka was playing golf he heard someone whisper “it is time to carry out your promise”.  Realizing that it was the voice of Bo Min Gaung, he immediately went to Mount Popa and became a  Buddhist monk. After ten years of meditation, U Eindaka appeared in Sagaing to build a pagoda and a monastery.  He has certain powers called “theikdhis”.  He can be at two places at the same time and materialize things out of thin air.  He could also read other people’s minds.
